Cold Weather Can't Stop Rockstar/WBR/Suzuki - Phoenix, AZChino, CA – January 15, 2007 - Although the temperature inside Chase Ballpark was comfortable before the opening ceremonies, an ill-advised (and botched) parachute exhibition prompted the roof to be opened to the low 40-degree weather before the first heat race. The result was a frigid race... and drastically reduced beer sales. Once the roof was finally closed, the Rockstar/WBR/Suzuki Team came out smokin'! Troy Adams came into Phoenix with determination. He finished 6th in his heat race, "I don't know if it was the weather or what...I couldn't feel my hands," Troy explained. "But I didn't ride like I wanted, I rode really tight." In the main Troy was charging and looked to be a lock for a top five when he suffered a weird mechanical dilemma. "In the main event I hooked in with Chris Gosselaar and we worked our way through the pack," Adams said. "About lap 6, somehow my hot start button got bent down and engaged, so it caused the bike to lean way out. I had to cruise to salvage my 13th spot." Going into Anaheim 2, Adams is 9th in the Supercross Lites Class. Michael Byrne showed great speed in his 450 Supercross practice sessions with 5th fastest lap time. Byrne's 3rd place heat race finish put him in a good position for his gate pick going into the main event. "I had a much better weekend than last weekend," Byrne said. "We made quite a bit of progress as far as with the bike and myself. I had a decent final - I ended up 6th. I made a pretty big mistake in the first rhythm section that cost me a couple of seconds. That kind of took me out of the battle with Tim Ferry. He ended up beating me by 2 seconds. It was a much better weekend though which allowed me to be 6th in points." The lap times for the weekend reflected just how fast this track was. The rhythm sections made the difference in the riding styles of everyone. Before the heat races the track crew pulled a lot of loose dirt off the berms over the top of the harder dirt underneath. This made for some pretty slippery conditions. But by the main events the surface was pretty good. "The track was fun, but pretty short and fast, overall I enjoyed it," said Byrne. "There were tricky sections that forced you be pretty precise. This was good because if someone made a mistake, you could make up time." Troy Adams agreed, "It started getting a little dry. I always like the dirt in Phoenix, but the whoops definitely started getting sketchy. The fast pace was kind of good and bad. Everyone was running the same pace, so no one had an advantage on anyone. The main event was about 10 minutes, which of course if you get a bad start, doesn't give you any time."
